On Tuesday, 16.03.2021, a successful virtual event about the value of Inland Navigation for Europe was organized. PIANC YP-com sections of Germany and Austria have come together with MCN, DST, bremenports, TTS and the University of Applied Sciences of Upper Austria (FHOÖ). A press-release in Germen is available here!

The aim of the event was to gather various initiatives, projects – such as IW-NET – and stakeholders related to the inland shipping industry. A very broad audience from logistics sector, construction industry, shipping companies, policy makers, port authorities, planners, administration and the education sector, was addressed. Overall speaking, a number of approx. 80 interested parties participated.

An inspiring keynote speech by Mr. Herfried Leitner, Managing Director of TTS, was followed by six virtual discussion tables of up to 15 participants focusing on different aspects of the IWT:

  • Innovation
  • Education & Training
  • Infrastructure
  • Performance
  • Shipping 4.0
  • Digitization

The table on innovation was led by Mr. Leitner, Lisa-Maria Putz (FHOÖ) and Cyril Alias (DST). Discussion was concentrated on the recent developments, such as a new ship design for varying water levels for the Danube that is being developed in the IW-NET project. A summary of the event together with the presentations (in German), can be read online or downloaded – click here! Enjoy the read!

The event has received a very positive feedback from all the stakeholders. Therefore, another follow-up meeting during the second half of 2021, is likely to be organized. We will keep you posted!
