The IW-NET project participated on March 31, at the ALICE webinar “Inland Waterway Research Domains and Solutions: Learning from NOVIMOVE and IW-NET”. ย The webinar was highly informative and relevant to the audience interested in Inland Waterways including shippers and cargo owners, logistics service providers, freight forwarders, transportation companies, intermodal operators, ports, service providers, and researchers.

During the event, Zisis Palaskas and Patrick Specht delivered a captivating presentation on “๐—œ๐—ช-๐—ก๐—˜๐—ง ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น ๐——๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐—น๐˜‚๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€.” Zisis Palaskas presented the overall ambition of IW-NET, highlighting the importance of addressing infrastructure bottlenecks, developing innovative vessels for low water conditions and urban logistics requirements, and implementing digitalization solutions such as automation, synchromodality, awareness, and security of transactions, aligning to the NAIADES III programme impacts.

Patrick Specht discussed the common issues that port authorities and inland vessels face before and during port calls, and how the digital solutions developed within IW-NET may help in streamlining and greening the process. The IW-NET presentation concluded with an outlook on how IW-NET’s port call digitalization and shore power solution would be tested in a real-world environment. This innovative solution has the potential to reduce transport GHG emissions and promote sustainable infrastructure management, making it highly relevant to ALICE members interested in Inland Waterways.

The event was a great opportunity to exchange on the latest innovative initiatives and technologies in the IWT sector and work together to support an efficient and competitive IWT sector.

We are grateful to ALICE, Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe for organizing this event and look forward to participating in future events.
